Save the date for National Family Volunteer Day – where all combinations of adults and children are invited to volunteer together, whether you are grandparents and grandchildren, uncles and aunts with nieces and nephews, parents with children and neighborhood kids tagging along or mentors with mentees. You are all invited.

Family Volunteer Day at Orchards Mall November 22, 2008, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sponsored with by a "Minnie" Grant from Disney.

Local not for profit organizations will have hands on projects where you can volunteer as a family, getting things done and making a difference in our community. There will be something for everyone, no matter what your age group or interests. Learn about other volunteer ideas that your family can do, as you consider giving back during the holiday season.

This Saturday, October 25 at 1 pm join the Mad Hatter for a whimsical tea party, tour the new hat exhibit at the North Berrien Historical Museum in Coloma to see the hats worn in the past and then decorate your own bucket hat. Volunteers will serve tea, assist at craft time and assist with set up and take down. If you are available and enjoy having fun contact the Volunteer Center or go to the web site to connect: www.volunteerswmi.org and link to 1-800 volunteer.org

Be A Mentor

Do you remember what it felt like when you were young and an adult listened to you and took an interest in you? Are you willing to return the favor for another child today? Your gift of time and caring can make a difference.

Look up mentoring opportunities on the 1-800-volunteer.org link.   Many different opportunities are available. In-school and after-school tutoring, community mentoring, and small group activities are only some examples.

Find one that fits your interests and the time you have to give. Remember who mentored you and volunteer today!
