MENTORING
Southwest Michigan Mentoring Collaborative
Promoting positive ways to help
change the world of a child through mentoring.
Sponsored by the Volunteer Center of Southwest Michigan, the Mentoring
Collaborative educates
communities on the important impact Mentoring Children has in the community, identifies
and assists organizations needing volunteer mentors and suggests additional ways everyone
can support mentoring.
Please contact the Volunteer Center if you are interested in becoming a Mentor by calling
983-0912 in the St. Joseph-Benton Harbor area, 683-5464 in the Niles area, check out our

Volunteering?" website.
Mentoring Works for All of Us
Did you know that mentoring is
considered one of the best ways to combat teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, broken
homes, adult crime and general disconnection from the community?
Mentored youth are:
46% less likely to use drugs
59% more likely to get better grades
73% more liely to raise their life goals
Mentoring IS connection, but as rewarding as it is, it takes
maturity and determination to be a mentor. Matching doesn't happen overnight. You will be
interviewed and asked questions about your life - these programs are charged with
protecting the well-being of often-small children and their selection and screening
procedures reflect that concern.
